The MIL-DTL-5015 specification covers heavy-duty circular electrical connectors with solder or removable crimp contacts, both front and rear release. They are used for both digital and analog signals, in addition to power distribution. They are commonly used in applications in the military, aerospace and industrial sectors.
MIL-DTL-5015 spec connectors are rated for operation within a temperature range of –55 °C up to 200 °C depending upon the class of the connector. One drawback of the MIL-DTL-5015 connector is its use of a single keyway unlike connectors designed to MIL-DTL-38999. This means the connector can only be polarised by insert rotation to stop mismating with similar sized connectors in applications where numerous plugs and receptacles are present.
The UK-made Weald Electronics LMJ Series of military circular connectors meets the requirements of MIL-DTL-5015 (formerly known as MIL-C-5015). The LMJ connectors are threaded coupling with an aluminium shell with a neoprene insert. These MIL-DTL-5015 electrical connectors are equivalent to connectors from other makers including Amphenol (MS and 97B) and ITT Cannon (MS).
The Weald MG Series is based on MIL-DTL-5015 planforms and features a reverse bayonet coupling for quick, positive connection with the added benefit of an audible indication of full coupling. Like the LMJ Series, MG connectors feature aluminium shells and shell styles include straight, 90 degrees and wall and box mounting. The MG Series is intermateable with VG95234 & Pattern 121B connectors.
Both Weald’s LMJ and MG Series of connectors can be rated up to IP67 and a range of accessories for both LMJ and MG Series includes protective caps, dust covers, nut plates, gaskets and cable clamps.
