Responsible for all aspects of accounting controls in relation to F C Lane Electronics Ltd and Weald Electronics Ltd bank accounts, purchase, sales and nominal ledgers and completion of management accounts, in accordance with business objectives.


  • To manage and develop an accounting team of 2/3 persons.

  • To enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles.

  • To oversee and assist with financial processing systems on K8, including Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger and Nominal Ledger.  Review accounting entries daily to identify errors in postings and to liaise with other members of staff to correct those errors.

  • To reconcile all Bank accounts in relation to Sterling, Euros, Dollars and Swiss Francs for both businesses.

  • To reconcile Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger and Nominal Ledger on a monthly basis for both businesses.

  • Submit quarterly VAT returns to HMRC.

  • Produce accurate monthly management accounts for the Managing Director and Finance Director as required.

  • To maintain appropriate ‘funding’ between both businesses.

  • Review and maintain currency Bank accounts, particularly in relation to Euros, Swiss Francs and US Dollars.

  • To manage the petty cash and settle any ad-hoc expenses for internal staff.

  • Assist/manage the year-end audit process in conjunction with the external auditors.

  • To administer the Company’s arrangements in relation to Company vehicles, road fund licences, etc.

  • To oversee and re-negotiate when required the Company’s contractual agreements regarding the provision of courier delivery services and Company mobile telephones.

  • To oversee the Company’s export sales activities.

  • To be responsible for the payment system within the Company’s UK and international ecommerce sales system and ensure that processes are compliant and accurate.

  • To undertake any ad-hoc accounting duties as determined by the Directors of the Lodge Group.


  • Proven management experience in a medium-sized distribution business or manufacturing business, or similar.

  • Appropriate functional qualifications, eg, AAT a distinct advantage.

  • Excellent general business and accounting software knowledge, in particular, MS Excel, MS Outlook and K8 (Kerridge), although Sage would be acceptable.

  • Understanding of accounting practices and procedures, audit procedures and expectations.

  • Be able to demonstrate previous experience in improving and/or streamlining existing financial and operational systems.

  • To possess in-depth knowledge and understanding of stock control and export procedures/processes.

  • Well-rounded commercial and business awareness/acumen.

  • A team-player with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.

  • The ability to prioritise workloads and delegate effectively.

  • High degree of numeracy skills.

  • Close attention to numeracy/administrative detail.

  • Ability to problem-solve and use initiative.

  • Have a natural, high level of personal integrity and honesty.  (Must maintain, at all times, a high level of discretion when working with private and confidential finance matters for the Companies, Directors or other members of staff, both inside and outside the workplace).
